Hermosa Beach Therapist For Young Adults
“What do I want to do with my life?”
“Do I want to be in a relationship right now?”
“I’m starting college and I’m terrified — I don’t know what to expect?”
“I want to be independent but I still rely on my parents for so much!”
“I feel stuck and hopeless because I don’t know what direction to go!”
Young adulthood, largely considered to be the stage of life between 18 and 21 years of age, is a time filled with these types of questions and concerns. It is a period of great transition when we are emerging from adolescence, but not quite yet considered to be an adult. While it can be an incredibly exciting period of time, it is often an equally challenging phase of our lives.
It is during this stage that we are confronted with difficult and hard to answer questions about our lives and the direction we are headed – both personally and professionally. Our social role, vocation, lifestyle, peers, and family dynamics are all in flux. After we finish high school, we may be faced with expectations from our family or our peers about what our next step should be, but we may not have a clear idea whether we want to take that next step.
Individualized Therapy For Young Adults in the South Bay
In my practice I specialize in working with young adults to help them explore their identity, their values, and their interests in order to begin answering some of these difficult questions. The instability of being “in between” life stages — for example, craving independence from your parents but depending on them for both financial or emotional support — can often make us feel stuck, hopeless or discouraged. Many young adults also feel cut off and alone.
My goal is to create a safe place where young adults can feel less isolated and more supported as they wrestle with these difficult issues. The therapy I offer is aimed at helping them begin the process of figuring out where they fit into the world and what they want out of their lives and their relationships. By reestablishing hope for their future and setting goals for moving forward in the direction that they want to go, young adulthood has the potential to transform from a period of struggle to a time of discovery and personal fulfillment!
