Meet Ted
I am an Associate Marriage and Family therapist currently providing in person and telehealth therapy to children, adolescents, adults and couples. I believe that everyone is fundamentally equipped with the tools for growth and change, but that sometimes we need help understanding ourselves and what is going on interpersonally around us, in order to learn how to use those tools effectively. I also believe that the connection that develops between the client and therapist is what makes growth and change happen, and because of this I believe it is our bond, and you feeling comfortable working with me, that is of utmost importance.
My style of therapy is a combination of warmth and kindness, and also includes offering insights, candor, and humor. I work with people of all ages who are looking for a place to be themselves, open up, look for areas of growth and challenge at times, and also create a meaningful connection with their therapist that helps them ground themselves during the difficult and fast paced nature of life. Nothing can stop life from being challenging, difficult and even chaotic at times, but our therapy relationship could help you start making more sense of it while getting the tools to thrive in it.
Education and Experience
I graduated from Mira Costa High school in 2002 (and understand the South Bay school ecosystem very well), and then I graduated magna cum laude from Cal State Long Beach with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. I have had several significant career experiences before becoming a therapist. I received a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from USC and lectured at USC’s International Academy, UCLA’s language programs, and abroad at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. During this time I also lived overseas for close to 5 years, learning and growing greatly from the experience of spending time in other countries and cultures. I also had a successful career in marketing, working for several Inc 500 (fastest growing) companies and ending up as a Director of Client Services at a prestigious marketing firm before changing directions to become a psychotherapist.
I grew up in a family of therapists, and meditators. My father is a psychologist that raised and trained me in eastern meditation practices. I participated in meditation programs and training since I was old enough to join these activities at our local meditation center. I also studied and practiced Buddhist meditation in Thailand and continue to participate in meditation workshops. Mindfulness and meditation are a big part of my life, which I can bring into the therapy room if a client is interested. I believe it is a unique skill that everyone can gain something from.
I received my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, and did intensive training at ACTS (Antioch Community Therapy Services) during my program. For the last few years, I have been an associate training and working closely with some of the most respected therapists in Los Angeles. I like working with a diverse population and have been described as a caring, lively and versatile therapist. People also often describe me as funny and smart. I appreciate the uniqueness of each individual which makes them special to me, and I strive to help them recognize and develop their talents and gifts. I think one of my strengths is that I have always liked so many different people, and have such a broad and varied friend group. I am passionate about helping people who are ready to grow and might be feeling stuck, or like they aren’t moving as much as they would like. I work with a lot of people struggling with anxiety, depression, attention issues, relationship issues and career frustration and confusion. I also work well with people who are struggling with issues of meaningfulness, satisfaction, feelings of emptiness and existential questions. Together, we can help you fulfill your potential and live your best life.
